I fount something nifty!

I just want to know what that font is!

I kept telling myself that this past year as I dove deeper into my career as a marketing assistant.

When you work in the marketing world, branding is everything. And when it comes to branding, consistency is key. Keeping consistent in your adverts, flyers, social media posts, and emails embeds the brand into the viewers mind.

So when you work for existing clients with existing brands, how can you keep things like fonts and colours consistent without prior knowledge of the original branding?

A few months back, I was asking myself this same question. I did a wee google and found some pretty nifty (FREE) tools to help keep your branding on track, or for those bloggers out there who just want that font!

>>FOUNT

Fount is super nifty. It is a font identifier tool for when searching the web. It identifies not only the font, but the size, weight, and style! How cool is that?

How it works – it’s user-friendly and convenient!

What I love most about Fount is you don’t have to download anything or open an extra window or program. It is kept right in your bookmarks bar for safe keeping and using on the double.

Simply go to https://fount.artequalswork.com/. From here, you will drag the provided image into your bookmarks bar and voilà!

After adding the bookmark:

  • Go to any site and click the Fount bookmarklet.

  • Click on any type you want to identify. Even logos! Repeat.

  • To turn Fount off, just click the bookmarklet again.

Please note: Fount works in Safari, Chrome, Firefox, and IE8+

>>EYE DROPPER

Eye Dropper is a colour identifier too for the web and an extension for Google Chrome and Chromium. It allows you to pick a colour from any site and conveniently stores your history. Just like Fount, Eye Dropper is kept in your bookmark bar for easy access.

Head on over to http://bit.ly/google-eyedropper and click “add to chrome”, once this has been added you’re good to go!

Once Eye Dropper is placed in your bookmark bar, browse the web for that perfect hue you’ve always wanted. Click on the tool located in the top right-hand corner of your browser and click “pick color from web page”. This will allow you to hover the eye dropper over any colour on the page and once you found the one you want, click again.

It will then give you the html code, rgb, and hsl. It will even give you a nifty name, like tomato red! Nifty! It will then store the codes for later use.

Of course, you need to be using Google Chrome to use the eye dropper, but does anyone use anything other these days?

Have fun and happy picking!
